1 What is the ASEAN-SEAFDEC Fish and Fish Products Safety Information Network?
The ASEAN-SEAFDEC Fish and Fish Products Safety Information Network is established in 2004 by the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC). This Network provides a forum to discuss pertinent systemic challenges faced by the governments in the region and make recommendations based on existing case studies.
2 What are the Network’s goals?
The Network’s goals are as follows;
  • To establish a network of regional experts and institutions which are working in the area of fish and fish products safety. The fields of study include chemical, drug and pesticide residues in fish and fish products, and the contamination of these residues in aquaculture, marine and agriculture environment.
  • To collate and consolidate information on the baseline levels of these components in fish and fish products in the region as well as the levels in the environment where the raw materials are produced.
  • To collate information on government policies and legislation and systemic measures taken in SEAFDEC member countries with regards to fish and fish products safety and the challenges encountered by them.
  • To make recommendations on measures to be taken to address issues that could be adopted in the region.
  • To provide sound science based information for ASEAN to make a common stand with regards to fish and fish products trade issues.
3 Who drives the Network?
The Network is driven under SEAFDEC’s Japanese Trust Fund Project. The Marine Fisheries Research Department (MFRD) is the lead department for this Network.
4 How can I participate?
You can participate by joining the forum. There are two forums in the website, namely the Public Forum and the Expert Forum. The public forum is meant open to all users however you will need to register before posting messages. For the expert forum, the forum can only be viewed for users that are registered under expert.
