If you are thinking about going ice fishing, you are in for a great time. However, while you are planning for some record catches, you need to remember that you need to consider safety. Take a moment to consider some important tips when you go ice fishing.

First, remember that there is no such thing as 100 percent safe ice. Always make sure that you ask how thick the ice is and whether it is safe. Also keep in mind the fact that new ice is much safer than old ice, as it has not had any chances to crack and then refreeze.

Also make sure that you pack some ice claws, which will help you stay stable if the ice does start cracking or if you fall in. If you do fall in, do not try to remove your clothes, as they will keep you warmer. The strongest ice is usually in the same direction that you came from, and crawl towards safety. Spread your weight out as evenly as you can as you head back towards land.

If you are interested in ice fishing, remember that you should always be safe when you go out. It doesn’t take much effort, and it is always worth it!

If you have ever been poked, pricked, or punctured by a by a fish that you’ve just reeled in, then you’re not alone. There are, however, some simple tricks to help you prevent that from happening the next time you manage to get that big one on the line:

Make sure the fish is calm. A fish that is docile and waiting to be picked up is much easier to handle than one that is flipping and flopping madly all over the place. Give the fish a moment to get the initial shock out of its system, then make slow and steady movements when you decide to grasp him.

Use a pair of pliers. Having a pair of pliers on hand can help you to maneuver safely and easily around the fish’s mouth. This way, you won’t have to risk getting nicked by those razor sharp teeth.

Know when to give up. If the fish has swallowed the hook, there’s a good chance that you won’t be able to retrieve it. At this point you can decide to cut the line and either throw it back, or keep it for dinner. Can’t get enough? There’s more: Cajun Blackened Tilapia Fish Tacos (Gluten and Dairy free!)

Fishing during the warm months will entail battling pesky insects that can interfere with the joy of any outdoor activity. If you are planning to fish in a standing body of water like a small pond, then you will be more likely to encounter a larger mass of insects, especially when the sun is setting. While there are many brands to chose from, along with types of repellant, the best kind of insect repellant will consist of the ingredients that are designed to repel the bugs and how long the product will last with it’s application.

DEET is the most common active form of insect repellant and the most used chemical world wide. The percentage can range from a 20 concentrate up to 95, and can last anywhere from 4 hours up to 12 hours for one application.

Natural insect repellants have become more popular in recent years, and can be just as effective as manufactured ones. The common ingredients usually consist of citronella and lemon eucalyptus, however they usually cost more and may require frequent applications.

Choosing an insect repellant may require some trial and error, however it will make a significant difference when battling the elements of nature.

Fishing is one of many recreational pastime hobbies that is enjoyed by many people around the world regardless of their age or gender. However, some things should be considered regarding the safety of any individual who goes fishing.

If an individual is using a boat when they are fishing, they should wear a life jacket and know how to swim. It is also a good idea to know something about the area they will be fishing in such as if there are submerged logs or other obstacles in the water.

Dressing for the type of weather is important and knowing if the weather is likely to change is helpful. The use of a waterproof sun screen with a high sun protection factor can help to avoid getting sun burned. Using a good insect repellent can help to reduce getting bit by various insects.

Learning how to remove fish from a line can help to avoid getting hurt because some fish such as bull heads and cat fish have what is commonly called a barb and can be very painful if a barb gets stuck in a person’s hand.

Being careful when baiting and removing a hook can help to avoid a painful injury to an individual.

A fishing trip can be a great recreational activity that gets you out of the house and into a boat to enjoy the rest of your day. You can spend time with a fishing buddy, spouse or child during a day trip. Fishing on a hot day can be advantageous because the fish can be active and fewer fishermen may be out competing for the same fish. Don’t forget to bring along the following items.

Clothing

Wear comfortable and clothing that is not restrictive for your day trip. Shorts, a t-shirt and a hat may suffice. Pack an extra pair of clothes for each person attending the trip in case your boat tips over or you get your clothes messy in the process.

Rations

Pack a meal for each person on the boat and for each meal that you will miss while away on your boat. Sandwiches are an easy option, but be sure not to add mayonnaise which may cause salmonella on hot days. Also bring plenty of beverages to avoid heat stroke.

Fishing Equipment

Pack at least three fishing rods, ample bait, a tackle box, an extra reel and extra line.

Other Supplies

Pack sunblock and any supplies that you will use to gut and transport the fish you catch.

It is easy to picture a clear day. The weather is beautiful and you are ready for the big fishing adventure. There are a few things to remember to make sure that your fishing trip is successful. Fishing safety is always important and precautions should be taken.

It is always necessary to check weather conditions. Don’t take chances and find a safe spot to fish or consider staying home. Simple procedures will ensure your physical safety. Wear the right footwear and the right clothing to protect your body. It makes good sense to have a fishing partner should you encounter a situation needing assistance. Never fish alone.

Determine the kind of fish that you would like to catch. This will help you make your decision where to fish and what kind of tackle and bait to use.Stay away from areas with dangerous fish. Different kinds of fish will feed at particular times and each species has certain likes and dislikes. Mother Nature plays a big part on the feeding behavior of fish. Check the information on the moon and the weather and you will have greater success in your efforts in this sport.

Fishing is an fun and exciting sport that young and old both enjoy. Fishing can also have many risk involved. While fishing with you children, you need to insure that safety is top priority. You can start by enforcing that your children wear a life jacket while fishing. Anytime that children are near water, they have the potential of falling in. By keeping them in a life jacket, you can put that fear to rest. They may still fall in, but with the life jacket on you will only have to worry about drying them off.

Baits and hooks can be very dangerous also, it’s easy to get a bait or hook stuck in your hand or anywhere for that matter. Teach your children to pay attention at all times to their bait or hook. Teach them to not let it just fling around freely so that is able to hook someone or themselves.

If you are fishing from a boat, teach your children to remain seated while the boat is in operation. They also need to be sure and keep their arms inside the boat as it is moving. It goes without saying that they must have the life jacket on while in the boat. Make sure that they have sunscreen to help protect them from the UV rays and it wouldn’t hurt for them to have a hat on either.
